Don't believe the hype: This Singapore hotel is NOT a great stopover spot. Here's why...

The place: Capri by Fraser, China Square, Singapore

I read the BS so you don't have to. This hotel was featured in a popular newspaper's traveller section. Surprise, surprise — the writer was staying as a guest of the hotel.

The price of the hotel was a hefty $250 per night, with the writer raving about how the hotel suits digital nomads as it was in fact a serviced apartment. The benefits of a serviced apartment to you on a stopover? A microwave in the room and a PlayStation with bean bags in a communal coliving space. So basically, you are staying in a backpackers hostel whilst paying for a five-star experience.

Not only that, but unfortunately there is no space in the hotel room for an actual bathroom. Instead, you have a frosted glass door and a sink next to your bed. How convenient. Let's hope that Singapore chilli crab was fresh.

Enough about the room, there's more.

The restaurant — obviously on your stopover in Singapore you'd like to try some local delicacies. Well this restaurant has decided to go for a fusion of European and Japanese cuisines. How about a Udon Carbonara? I'm not kidding that's actually on the menu.

The writer's only complaint? After shelling out 250 bucks, they only had powdered milk in the room to make tea. Even after requesting fresh milk, they were knocked back. The solution? The writer filled a glass of milk at breakfast and took it to their room for later! Now that is tight as.

My Tight As Alternative:

Hotel 81 Tristar

Or just don’t stop over in Singapore — with exchange rates, it is way too expensive these days.
